Catching it up.

Here are ore notes and thoughts I have written down while listening to various podcasts. A lot of the notes I'll have in the catch up posts will be from Search the Scriptures which is an absolutely fantastic show. Dr. Constantinou is a great biblical scholar and her show has been a great consolation for me as I fit what I learned as a Protestant into my life as an Orthodox Christian.

1.) Romans 5:12
Latin: "in whom all have sinned"
Greek: "because all have sinned"
I remember jotting this down in reference to a discussion on original sin vs. ancestral sin.

2.) Priesthood of all believers but not the "eldership" of all believers. Some within the community are still called out to lead the community as the old Israel had priests though they were to minister to the rest of the world.

3.)No need for infallibility of the Scriptures in Orthodoxy.

4.) A.The blood is the life.
     a. Allows us communion/union
          i. energies not essence
     b. blood is for making atonement for the soul - Leviticus

B. Can't connect with the uncreated except through the created.

C. Atonement does not mean getting rid of criminal charges but attaining communion with God.

D. Blood offered up and charged and put on the believers, not offered up in exchange for something.

5.) St. Ignatius of Antioch
A. Division is sign of the absence of God.

B. "God does not dwell where there is division and wrath."

6.) "Feed the hungry that you may not feed the fires of Hell." - St. John Chrysostom

7.) "If your faith goes away on the basis of [boldly studying the Bible and following in the footsteps of the Fathers], then maybe it needs to so that it can be replaced with real faith." - Professor Nicolae Roddy.
